We already start to produce a 90-min documentary about the current coronavirus crisis. The triangular relationship between politics, science and media seems to be knocked off balance. We want to explore how this imbalance impacts us all.

We want to move away from the panic-stricken narrative based on speculations represented by the media. We want to critically question the status quo with an objective approach that is not based on emotive headlines. We want to get closer to the truth, independent of broadcasters who may want to influence the outcome.

This way we can keep you updated and give you more insights, views and information on the crisis while we’re still in the process of making the film.

About us

OVALmedia was founded in 1998 by Lilian Franck and Robert Cibis and has been producing international documentary films and cross media projects for cinema and television for over 20 years. Our documentary film “Pianomania” (2009) has been screened in cinemas in more than 25 countries and received a number of awards (e.g. the main prize Semaine de la Critique Locarno).

Other cinema films include “Fuck Fame“, which was released in 2019 as well as the investigative doc “trustWHO” (2018) which sold to TV channels all over the world and looks behind the scenes of private interests within the World Health Organization. In the same year, OVALmedia took over distribution of their film “Free Lunch Society” (2016), which advocates the introduction of an unconditional basic income. On February 1st 2018, the film was screened in 100 cinemas simultaneously followed by 100 discussions throughout Germany, while 11 one-year basic incomes were raffled off. This successful integration of production, marketing, sales and distribution was made possible through the digitalisation of many operating processes. OVALmedia has been responsive to these changes. We realized that just because a target audience may be small in one individual country, this doesn’t mean it can’t reach a huge audience on a global scale. Since then, OVALmedia has gone international with registered companies in Berlin, Cologne, Paris and Rome.

OVALmedia specializes in documentary films about health. Besides trustWHO, we have produced several television films about health-related topics, these include “The Pill” (2010) , “Kids on Pills” (2010), “Disgustingly Healthy: Leeches and Maggots” (2011) and “Accupuncture” (2019).

trustWHO – Documentary

When it comes to our health, there are very few institutions that are both competent and independent. We want to rely on doctors, of course, and health officials, as well. They, in turn, take their cues from the World Health Organization. But what if the trust that billions of people around the world put on this institution is misplaced?

The documentary investigates how efficiency and transparency of the WHO are undermined by both corporate influences and a lack of public funding.
